Our Programs

Toddler Program - 18 months through 3 years

Ayano KEEP This sensitive period of the child's life has many physical and emotional needs that can be met in a uniquely prepared toddler environment. The space is beautifully designed to appeal to the child's curiosity. The furniture is customized to allow for maximum independence. The materials in the room continue to change as the child grows emotionally, physically, and intellectually. In many instances, this is the first experience of being a member of his or her own community. The child is not served, but rather is allowed and encouraged to be a functioning member of the community. This leads him or her to a feeling of pride and dignity. The Toddler program is available two or three days a week as a morning or afternoon session, or a full day session five days a week. A qualified Montessori teacher directs each class. The professional staff offers the tenderness, warmth, and patience so essential to this age. An emphasis on the importance of a peaceful environment, with necessary nurturing and caring, is characteristic of this program.

Primary Program - 3 years through 5 years

VMS006 The Primary program is a multi-age three-year cycle that includes children aged three through five. Children experience an academically enriched environment within a well-ordered social community. The presence of these two factors is based on the principle that children absorb their environment, language, and culture in a way that is unique to this age. A special characteristic of the Primary program is that the classroom encompasses the areas of learning and socializing that are designed to foster independence, concentration, self-motivation and a love of learning. Another feature of the Primary classroom is that the materials are accessible to the children. They are free to choose activities appropriate to their level and progress and develop at their own pace. The Primary program is available five days a week as a morning, afternoon, or full day session. Children who are five years of age are prepared for more sequential work in language, math, geography, and the sciences, which necessitate longer blocks of time. Therefore, a full day program in the Montessori classroom is recommended.

Lower & Upper Elementary Program
- First through Fifth Grade

Pine Girls

In this program students learn and develop fundamental skills that play an important role throughout their academic career. The curriculum is outlined in such a way that each child's progress is personalized to his or her pace. It challenges the most able student and offers the flexibility necessary to support children's different learning styles. This is evident when one enters the classrooms. At any time of the day, one might see children building timelines, recording science experiments, writing book reports and compositions, administering spelling tests to one another or solving mathematical problems. Language arts, mathematics, social studies, science and history are the core of the academic program. Language arts include reading, phonics, literature, spelling, vocabulary, grammar and writing. Reading is an integral part of all areas of the curriculum. The mathematics program provides the groundwork for a firm understanding of basic mathematical concepts. Students are actively involved in problem-solving and gain a concrete understanding of mathematical principles through the use of manipulative materials. In addition to this core curriculum, computers, science, foreign language, music, art and physical education are part of the Elementary program. The student also experiences a well defined social system operating within the class. The class is a society where children work and learn together in harmony while retaining their individuality. With the teachers' support and direction, the children strive to become responsible for their own behavior and to help the community by observing the rules necessary for peaceful living.

Middle School Program
- Sixth through Eighth Grade

Middle School Boys

The sixth through eighth grade years are critical in the development of the pre-adolescent. There is no other time in the life of a child in which growth is so noticeable, varied, and significant, except for the first three years of life. This phenomena demands a special learning experience which is "middle school" developed by the teachers and students. Middle School teachers are advisors: kind, caring, and determined to engage students in learning. We offer a rigorous core academic program and work to ensure success for all students. Because we do not use grades to indicate the quality of student's work, a portfolio containing samples of each student's work is available to demonstrate progress. Middle School includes many field trips, overnight outings, community service projects and work experience. Students conduct class meetings, plan projects and do daily chores. Independent study, foreign language, computers, art, dance, music, journalism and sports are also included in our program.
