2012 AMS Demonstration Montessori Elementary Classroom
Featuring Students and Teachers from Valley Montessori School
Attendees of the American Montessori Society 2012 Annual Conference in San Francisco will be treated to a demonstration Montessori elementary classroom featuring students and teachers from Valley Montessori School. The living exhibit revives the spirit of the hugely popular “glass classroom” built for the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition, also held in San Francisco.
• The demonstration classroom is located in an atrium in the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, with an ample viewing area from above.
• The class will meet on Friday, March 16, 12:00 – 3:00 p.m.
• Students, teachers, and AMS spokespersons will be available for interviews with the media.
This temporary environment, constructed especially for the AMS 2012 Annual Conference, replicates a typical Montessori classroom: a warm, harmonious place with work spaces suitable for solo or group activity, and well-‐defined areas for each part of the curriculum. Accessible shelves and display tables hold an array of specially designed Montessori learning materials. Classroom furnishings, including the learning materials and child-‐sized furniture, are provided by Nienhuis Montessori.
Elementary teachers and their students, ages 6 – 9, from Valley Montessori School in Livermore, California, will portray themselves.
Onlookers will get a glimpse of an actual school day as participants engage in their usual activities, including small group lessons and a long, uninterrupted block of time that allows students to become absorbed in work of their own choosing. Docents will provide observers with an overview and will be available to answer questions.
