Physical Education

Primary and Full Day Toddler

Motor Development Activities provide an opportunity for our younger students to engage in fun, purposeful movement activities that serve as a foundation for early learning. Skill areas targeted include: motor planning, body awareness, balance, postural control, midline crossing, bilateral integration, upper extremity strength, object control and visual tracking.

Activities are chosen and presented in the form of stations for students to choose and practice in a safe and supportive environment.  Children have the opportunity to revisit activities from previous groups as well as build on the skills they have developed with new activities.

VMS has a variety of equipment to keep this program intriguing and fun for our students including an indoor rock wall, scooter boards and ramp, balance beams, turtle racers, and incline mat. Additionally, throughout the school year, students are introduced to new equipment for ongoing use during outside play time such as hippity-hops, hoops, obstacle course materials, and target games.

Elementary and Middle School

The VMS Physical Education program is intended to motivate students to be excited about movement and encourage students to make physical fitness a life- long activity. Student grades 1 through 8 have P.E. once to twice a week. Each class incorporates fitness, sports fundamentals, and strength conditioning components. Throughout the year students will engage in a variety of sports including:

  • Basketball
  • Volleyball
  • Flag Football
  • European Handball
  • Kickball
  • Badminton
  • Tennis
  • Floor Hockey
  • Lacrosse
  • Playground and Recreational Games

Physical Education classes are held in our gymnasium and many of our games are played on a variety of outdoor facilities.
